SPRING, TEXAS – The Southern Texas PGA Section announced the 2019 Southern Texas PGA Texas Joe Black Cup Matches team on Tuesday. Captain Dave Altemus, PGA General Manager at Royal Oaks Country Club, alongside Vice Captains James Brown, PGA Head Professional at Royal Oaks Country Club, Randy Jones, PGA Golf Manufacturer Sales Representative for Club Car, and Bryan Minnick, PGA Head Professional at Shadow Hawk Golf Club will lead the team. This annual Ryder Cup-style event between the Southern Texas PGA and the Northern Texas PGA will be the 39th meeting and is set for October 28-29 at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley.
“I am truly humbled and honored to be the Captain for the 2019 STPGA Texas Joe Black Cup team,” said Altemus. “Mr. Black is a legend not only in Texas but across the country as he set the standard by which many of us try to live up to as PGA Professionals. I look forward to keeping the Cup in South Texas.”
The PGA Professionals who played their ways onto the team based off points received for their finishes at the Section’s major championships are:
Joining them will be STPGA President Doug DeSive, PGA Head Professional at Corpus Christi Country Club as well as a Captain’s Pick Ryan Polzin, PGA Head Professional at Oak Hills Country Club.
The Southern Texas PGA won the 2018 edition of the tournament with an 11.5 to 6.5 victory at Dallas National Golf Club last fall. The Southern Texas PGA leads the Matches with a 19-18-1 overall record.

The Texas Joe Black Cup Matches is annually the most anticipated competitive event in the Northern and Southern Texas Sections. This fiercely contested rivalry between the two sister sections is marked by close matches, dramatic shots, uncompromising sportsmanship, and friendships that last a lifetime.
Established in 1981, the Texas Joe Black Cup Matches were created to honor Snyder native Joe Black, who was completing his first term as President of PGA of America.
