  • A deeply respected figure in the golf community, Bryan Minnick’s journey as a PGA of America Member reflects a lifetime of dedication, service, and excellence. Introduced to golf by his father and grandfather, Bryan’s passion for the game ignited at an early age and set him on a path that has become both a fulfilling career and a way of life.

    Bryan’s professional journey took shape under several incredible mentors who inspired him to pursue PGA Membership and begin his impactful journey in the industry. Since then, Bryan has become a cornerstone of the Southern Texas PGA, dedicating his career to fostering the growth of the game and serving as a role model for fellow Professionals and players alike.


    Having worked in three of the seven metropolitan areas served by the Southern Texas PGA—including The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Shadow Hawk Golf Club in Richmond, and his current role at Traditions Club in Bryan—Bryan has accumulated a wealth of experience in a variety of golf environments and communities. This broad exposure has allowed him to gain unique insights into the needs and expectations of members across different regions. His ability to adapt to the distinct characteristics of each metro area has helped him foster strong, lasting connections with Southern Texas PGA Members, contributing to the growth and success of the organization.


    Bryan’s 17-year journey with the Southern Texas PGA has been defined by impactful leadership and a deep commitment to the organization’s growth and success. Starting as a member of the Tournament Committee under then-Chairman Jeff Strong, PGA, Bryan quickly rose to Chair the Committee after two years, demonstrating his ability to lead and inspire. His dedication led to broader roles, including serving as an At-Large Director in 2017 and, most recently, as President of the STPGA. Throughout his service, Bryan has worked tirelessly to advance the organization, focusing on enhancing tournament purses, expanding Member education, and growing the STPGA staff.


    As President, Bryan’s leadership has been driven by a desire to improve and ensure the Membership’s best interests are always prioritized. His efforts have pushed both the STPGA team and its Members to achieve new levels of success, fostering a culture of continuous growth. Whether advocating for better opportunities or strengthening organizational structures, Bryan’s legacy reflects his unwavering dedication to making a positive, lasting impact on the STPGA and its Members.


    Bryan views golf as more than a game; to him, it is a powerful metaphor for life. He believes in the importance of resilience, embracing each day as a new opportunity, and trusting that consistent effort will yield rewarding results. His reflections on the balance required in golf - between power and finesse, physicality and mental strength - are a testament to his thoughtful approach to the sport.


    This recognition stands as a crowning achievement in Bryan’s career. It is a testament to his exceptional leadership, his dedication to the game, and his unwavering commitment to the STPGA and its Members. Harvey Penick Teacher of the Year

  • PGA of America Master Professional Craig Trahan has dedicated his life to golf and teaching, with a career that began in the simplest yet most profound way - a round of golf with his father that ignited a passion for the game and its culture. This initial spark led him to view golf not only as a sport but as a powerful means to build lasting relationships and positively impact lives. Over the years, Craig has honed his skills through perseverance, hard work, and a strong commitment to his craft, developing a unique teaching style that reflects his passion for the game.

    With 19 years of experience, Craig has established himself as a highly regarded instructor, most recently at Houston Country Club. After leaving the Section for some time, he returned to the club as its first official Director of Instruction, a role he was encouraged to take on by Gordon Johnson, PGA. Since then, he has transformed the Women’s and Junior Golf programs, creating lasting impacts that resonate throughout the club. His teaching philosophy blends wisdom from the greats of golf with a deep dedication to listening to his students, allowing him to tailor his instruction to each individual’s needs. 


    Every lesson he gives is infused with enthusiasm, praise, and genuine care for the student’s journey, no matter their skill level. His personal motto, “Focus on the ONE,” serves as a guiding principle in his life and work, capturing his approach to helping students find clarity and purpose in their game.


    Craig aims to give 110% to each of his students, ensuring they receive his very best in every lesson. He is inspired by many PGA of America mentors, including Rob Noel, Bill Slade, Gordon Johnson, JT Crawford, Travis East, Chuck Cook, Dennis McGrail, VJ Trolio, Harvey Penick, Layne Savoie, and Kevin Compare, each of whom has helped shape his professional journey.


    Craig’s influence extends beyond teaching, with his son inspiring him to complete his Master PGA Professional coursework, a reminder of the power of perseverance and leading by example. This milestone deepened his commitment to mentoring fellow professionals and fostering growth in his students. Craig’s legacy in his community is one of passion, enthusiasm, and dedication. His unique ability to connect with students and his unwavering commitment to their growth makes him a standout professional.


    In recognition of his impact, the STPGA proudly names him the 2024 Harvey Penick Teacher of the Year, honoring his exceptional contributions to both his students and the game of golf.

Bill Strausbaugh Award

  • Andrew Peterson, PGA President and CEO of the Alamo City Golf Trail, has dedicated his life to the game of golf, influenced from a young age by his father who introduced him to the sport. Growing up in Northern Minnesota, Andrew recalls spending long summer days with his dad on the course, creating cherished memories that would later become the foundation of his career. Now a recognized leader in golf and his community, Andrew continues to impact the lives of those who surround him.

    For Andrew, golf has always been more than just a game - it has been a cornerstone of his life that offers a rewarding career, lifelong friendships, and countless opportunities to explore the world. Through golf, he has learned invaluable lessons about perseverance, dedication, and the importance of continual self-improvement. While his relationship with the game has evolved over the years, moving from an all-encompassing passion in his youth to a more balanced appreciation in adulthood, golf remains deeply meaningful to him. He views it not just as a sport but as a platform for building connections and creating lasting impacts.


    Since earning PGA Membership in 2001, Andrew has channeled this gratitude into a mentorship approach that has provided a vehicle for positively influencing those he has had the opportunity to lead and work alongside. His extensive experience across a diverse range of facilities has allowed him to develop a mentorship style centered on fostering genuine, impactful relationships. Andrew believes in tailoring his guidance to meet individual needs, ensuring that each interaction is meaningful and contributes to personal and professional growth.


    Through his unwavering commitment to mentorship and his passion for golf, Andrew continues to inspire others, carrying forward the values and lessons the game has instilled in him. His journey reflects not only a career dedicated to excellence but also a life of service, enriched by the connections and opportunities golf has provided.


    In the coming year, Andrew plans to complete his PGA Specialization in Executive Management and begin the process of CMAA Certification. Looking ahead, he hopes to see the Alamo City Golf Trail and the Southern Texas PGA continue to flourish, while supporting the growth of the game he loves. His contributions to golf, combined with his passion for serving others, have earned him a lasting place in the industry and the admiration of those around him.

Kayla McFall

San Antonio Country Club

Assistant Professional of the Year

  • From a young age, Kayla McFall, PGA displayed a strong passion for golf. Her drive to excel saw her become the first on her high school team to advance past Districts, leading to a Division I college scholarship and the pursuit of professional goals. Kayla’s journey has been guided by the steadfast encouragement of her mentor, Dr. Rich Ballinger, PGA, whose high standards and honest advice have pushed her toward continual growth. Kayla credits him with shaping her into the professional she is today, valuing his “no-nonsense” approach to mentorship.

    Kayla’s journey into golf began at age 11 when a visit to the driving range with her father sparked her interest in the game. Receiving her first set of clubs that Christmas, she never looked back, immersing herself in a sport that has since become a central part of her life. Kayla’s parents, specifically her father, then fed her passion by getting her involved in Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf tournaments. She considers golf not only a passion but a life-shaping journey, teaching her the importance of patience and acceptance.


    Today, Kayla serves as the Assistant Golf Professional at San Antonio Country Club under the mentorship of PGA Director of Golf Jim Nittoli. Her impact at the club has been transformative; she has revitalized the Women’s Golf Association and significantly increased junior golf involvement. Through her enthusiasm and vision, Kayla has not only expanded these programs but has breathed new life into the club's golf culture, creating a welcoming and dynamic atmosphere.


    Kayla looks to the future with aspirations of becoming a Head Golf Professional or Director of Golf, while continuing her active involvement in leadership roles, including serving on the Southern Texas PGA Member Services Committee and the National PGA Education Committee. A pivotal moment in her life came in 2022 with the loss of her best friend, Tyler James, a college coach, and her dream coaching partner. Inspired by his memory, Kayla is driven to live each day to the fullest and honor his legacy through her unwavering dedication to the game they both cherished.


    Guided by her personal motto, “Your only limit is you; therefore, create your own sunshine,” Kayla embodies a proactive and optimistic approach to life and her career, continuously striving to uplift and inspire those around her. 


    Kayla envisions creating an inclusive, engaging environment, growing the game through Junior and Women’s programs, and bringing golf to underserved communities as a positive outlet and source of inspiration. Her commitment to service and passion for the game are what make her a truly deserving recipient of the 2024 Southern Texas PGA Golf Assistant Professional of the Year award!

Tirrel Baymon

Cypresswood Golf Club

Player Development Award

  • Since 2010, Tirrel Baymon, PGA has been a dedicated Teaching Professional at Cypresswood Golf Club, where he now serves as Director of Instruction. His passion for teaching matches his desire to inspire and mentor the next generation of golfers. Before his time at Cypresswood, Tirrel worked with The First Tee program, helping young golfers develop their skills while also instilling the values of integrity, respect, and perseverance that are so crucial in the game of golf.

    Tirrel’s journey into golf began at an early age. A standout golfer at Trevor Brown High School, he went on to play collegiate golf at Florida A&M University on a full scholarship. His collegiate experience laid the foundation for a successful career in golf, one that has been marked by a deep commitment to instruction and helping others develop their skills. Tirrel was elected to PGA Membership in 2018, which marked another significant milestone in his professional journey.


    Drawing from a wealth of experience, Tirrel has channeled his passion for the game of golf into an extraordinary ability to develop players of all skill levels. While some instructors focus on honing the talents of elite athletes, Tirrel’s heart lies with beginners - those taking their first steps into the world of golf. Through his Introduction to Golf and PGA HOPE programming, Tirrel’s mission is to plant a small seed of enthusiasm for the game and nurture it into a lasting passion.


    Tirrel approaches teaching with more than technical instruction; he fosters a sense of belonging and community among his students. He takes great care to make each participant feel valued and unique, tailoring his guidance to meet their individual needs. His teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that the game of golf offers not only personal growth but also an opportunity to create meaningful connections with others.


    By emphasizing inclusion and camaraderie, Tirrel’s work goes beyond the fairways. Tirrel creates a supportive environment where beginners can flourish, instilling confidence and a love for the sport that endures, making the STPGA proud to recognize him as the 2024 Player Development Award recipient!

    Doug’s passion for golf began at a young age, inspired by his father. These formative experiences fueled his ambition to play college golf, a goal he achieved through hard work and determination. Roger Stebbins

High Meadow Ranch Golf Club

Youth Player Development Award

  • With over two decades of teaching experience, Roger Stebbins, PGA has dedicated his career to shaping the future of golf by developing juniors into well-rounded athletes and individuals. As the PGA Director of Instruction at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club, Roger has built a reputation as a skilled mentor who prioritizes Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) to cultivate success both on and off the course.

    After the passing of his father in 1987, Roger discovered a love for golf that would shape his life and career. Starting at the age of 8 in a fun and supportive environment, Roger began playing competitively by age 12, driven by a passion for the game. Like many young golfers, he dreamed of a professional career and was fortunate to experience a brief stint at this level. This deep-rooted competitiveness and love for the sport ultimately led to a fulfilling career in teaching and coaching, where he now shares his passion and expertise with others.


    Roger has witnessed and contributed to the remarkable growth of STPGA Junior Golf Programs and PGA of America initiatives. From the adoption of the American Development model in 2011-2012 to the evolution of PGA Jr. League after its acquisition in 2014, Roger has been at the forefront of these impactful developments. Early in his career, Roger worked under the mentorship of Kevin Kirk, PGA, a champion of Long-Term Athletic Development, and gained firsthand insight into the adoption of ADM principles into the PGA of America.


    Throughout his career, Roger has actively promoted STPGA Junior Golf pathways through programs such as Little Linksters, Drive, Chip, & Putt, and PGA Jr. League. Under his guidance, these initiatives have flourished, including a competitive PGA Jr. League Program that averages 60 participants annually. In 2013, Roger's team achieved 3rd place in the National Championship, a testament to his dedication to fostering talent. Roger’s passion for junior golf remains steadfast as he looks forward to further engaging in Section Committees and advancing the game for future generations.


    For Roger, the greatest reward lies in witnessing the growth and achievements of the players he mentors. His dedication to developing the next generation of golfers is a testament to his enduring love for the sport and commitment to its future. Celebrating his profound influence on young athletes and the game of golf, the Southern Texas PGA is proud to recognize Roger Stebbins as the 2024 Youth Player Development Award winner!


Doug Carlton

RIIM Golf Academy

Patriot Award

  • Doug Carlton, PGA's journey in the golf industry began in 1990 when he was hired by the U.S. Air Force as the Director of Golf at Muroc Lake Golf Course at Edwards Air Force Base. Over the next three decades, he served at numerous military installations, including Moffett Field, Kirtland AFB, Little Rock AFB, and Fort Sam Houston. His dedication and leadership earned him prestigious recognition, including two Civilian of the Year awards from the U.S. Air Force.

    Throughout his remarkable 29-year career since being elected to PGA Membership in 1993, Doug has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to introducing golf to new players and supporting Veterans through transformative programs. He played a pivotal role in piloting several key initiatives for the PGA of America, including Link Up 2 Golf (which later evolved into Get Golf Ready), PGA Jr. League, and PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere). These efforts not only expanded access to the game but also created lasting impacts on countless lives.


    Since retiring, Doug has remained deeply involved in the PGA HOPE programs in San Antonio, working tirelessly at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course, Hyatt Hill Country, Golf Club of Texas, and Gateway Hills. His passion for these programs is evident in the meaningful relationships he maintains with past participants, many of whom he considers extended family. Doug’s vision for the future is to continue growing these initiatives, furthering his mission to enrich lives through the game of golf.


    Doug’s legacy is defined by his passion for golf, his tireless support for Veterans and active-duty military personnel, and his dedication to fostering community through the game. Celebrating his exceptional contributions and unwavering commitment to those he serves makes the Southern Texas PGA proud to honor Doug Carlton as the 2024 Patriot Award recipient!


Bryant Hiskey

Golf Sales Representative of the Year

  • Golf has been a part of Bryant's life from a young age, growing up in a family where the sport was a constant. His father Bryant “Babe” Hiskey, a professional golfer and PGA of America Member, served as his greatest inspiration, and Bryant decided early on that he wanted to follow in his footsteps. He found his calling within the business side of the game, specifically sales. Now a PING Sales Representative, he believes success in sales isn’t just about closing deals, but about building strong, lasting relationships, and this recognition affirms the importance of that approach.

    A pivotal moment in Bryant's career came when he had the opportunity to work directly with Karsten Solheim, the founder of PING Golf. Making the move from Houston to Phoenix to work for PING and the Solheim family was a life-changing decision that shaped his professional journey and taught him invaluable lessons. This experience solidified his dedication to the industry and provided him with the mentorship that has guided his path in golf sales.


    Describing himself as driven, passionate, and humble, Bryant’s personal motto is “Don’t ever give up.” Looking ahead, his goal is to create more balance in his life between family, church, and work, while continuing to nurture the strong relationships he’s built within the golf community. Bryant’s hopes for the future include staying healthy and continuing to grow professionally, all while helping others succeed in their golf journeys. The Southern Texas PGA is proud to announce Bryant Hiskey as the 2024 Golf Sales Representative of the Year.

The club's success stems from its commitment to creating an environment where members feel valued and well-served. This commitment to excellence ensures that members receive the best equipment for their game, backed by expert advice and personalized attention. Whether it’s helping with product selection or offering expert recommendations, the staff goes above and beyond to meet the needs of every member. Their dedication to merchandising was seen in their 2023 gross merchandise sales of over $889,700 and projected $1,050,000 in 2024.

  • At Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club, the team takes great pride in maintaining a golf shop that is both current and inviting for hotel guests and members. The strategy behind the shop’s success is a commitment to organization and attentive customer service. As a high-end resort that serves both a small membership base and public golfers, Hyatt Hill Country’s golf shop strives to offer a diverse selection of products that appeal to a wide range of styles and budgets. The golf shop’s success is a direct result of this proactive and inclusive approach, ensuring that Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club remains a premier destination for both shopping and golfing. Their hard work was seen in their 2023 gross merchandise sales of over $854,800 and projected $900,000 in 2024.

Lindsay Lee


Junior Golfer of the Year

  • Lindsay Lee is a Senior at Alamo Heights High School, where she not only excels academically as a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the National Honor Society but also shines as a key member of the girls' golf team. Her academic dedication and athletic talents make her a true role model for her peers. Following graduation, Lindsay aspires to continue her golf journey at the collegiate level with hopes of one day competing professionally.

    Since joining the Southern Texas PGA in 2015, Lindsay has demonstrated remarkable skill, resilience, and sportsmanship, amassing over 70 victories and achieving the rare accomplishment of winning all three STPGA Junior Championships. Throughout her years of participation, she has competed in more than 190 events, consistently performing at a high level. Lindsay has also been a valuable asset to Team STPGA in both the Texas Junior Cup Matches and the Ben Hogan Cup Matches, showcasing her leadership and team spirit.


    Lindsay exemplifies the highest ideals of the game of golf, combining skill with an incredible spirit and respect for the game. Selected for the prestigious PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach, she had the honor of playing alongside a PGA TOUR Champions golfer, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that further demonstrated her dedication and potential. Golf has been more than a sport for Lindsay - it has instilled confidence, provided a lifelong passion, and fostered lasting friendships. Her journey is a testament to hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence and it is with immense pride that the STPGA recognizes Lindsay Lee as the 2024 Junior Golfer of the Year.


Asher Vargas


Junior Golfer of the Year

  • Asher Vargas is a Junior at Grand Oaks High School, where he exemplifies excellence both on the course and in the classroom. With a 4.0 GPA and a place on the Boys Varsity Golf team, Asher demonstrates the balance of academic achievement and athletic dedication that defines a true scholar-athlete. Upon graduating, he will continue his golf journey, having verbally committed to the University of North Carolina, where he aims to elevate his game to a new level.

    Since joining the Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf program in 2015, Asher has made a name for himself through hard work, persistence, and impressive performances. On the Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour, he has achieved one victory and five top-10 finishes, showcasing his competitive spirit and consistency. Among his notable accomplishments, Asher represented the USA in the Junior Presidents Cup Team in 2024 at Le Club Laval-sur-le-Lac, marking a significant milestone and highlighting his talent on the international stage. Additionally, he secured a tie for 2nd place at the Junior PGA Championship with a stellar tournament score of 280 (-7), an accomplishment that demonstrates his skill, focus, and potential.


    Asher’s success in golf is matched by his dedication to the values of sportsmanship, integrity, and leadership. Known for his respectful demeanor and positive influence on and off the course, he is recognized not only for his athletic skill but also for his exemplary character. He embodies the spirit of golf, showing young athletes everywhere the importance of respect and responsibility. His love for the game and advocacy for its values make the STPGA honored to recognize Asher Vargas as the 2024 Junior Golfer of the Year!

  • The Southern Texas PGA proudly names Camille Enright, PGA Assistant Professional at Boot Ranch, as the 2024 Rolex Women’s Player of the Year. In just her second year with the Section, Camille continues to make a remarkable impact, showcasing her skill and determination with three Top-25 finishes and an impressive Top-10 placement at the Boxto Memorial Championship. Beyond her achievements on the course, Camille embodies sportsmanship, dedication, and a commitment to excellence. Her outstanding performance and unwavering passion for the game have set her apart as an exceptional player and a shining example of the talent and leadership women bring to the Southern Texas PGA.

Rolex Senior Player of the Year

  • The Southern Texas PGA proudly recognizes Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, as the 2024 Southern Texas PGA Rolex Senior Player of the Year for his extraordinary achievements throughout the 2024 season. Omar showcased his dominance in the Senior Division with victories at all four Major Section Championships, a testament to his unparalleled skill and consistency. Highlighting his exceptional year was a commanding win at the Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open, where he triumphed over a strong field of competitors from across the Nation. Adding to his accolades, Omar proudly represented the Section in his fifth appearance at the Levy Cup matches against Northern Texas, further solidifying his status as one of the region's most accomplished players.

Carlos Sainz Jr.

Houston Oaks Country Club

Rolex Player of the Year

  • The Southern Texas PGA is proud to recognize Carlos Sainz Jr. as the 2024 Rolex Player of the Year. Carlos delivered an exceptional season, capturing two Section Major Championship titles with victories at the Veritex Bank Spring Classic and the Boxto Memorial Championship. Complementing these wins, he demonstrated remarkable consistency with top-10 finishes in the other two Majors, solidifying his position as one of the most accomplished players in the Section. His unwavering commitment to excellence and passion for the game make him a true ambassador for golf in the Southern Texas PGA.
