MONT BELVIEU, TX (October 20, 2023) – In his first appearance at the Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open, Kris Blanks from Jupiter, Florida is your 2023 Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open Champion. He finished the event at -12 and a four shot victory. His three rounds were consistent with scores of 68-66-67. Blanks established himself on the final day as the solo leader after an eagle on the par five 9th hole and did not look back.
“I knew I had to put pressure on Omar and Jay and I played well the entire day," said Blanks who has had one top-10 finish this year on PGA TOUR Champions back in May. "I hit my first really good shot on Hole 9 with a 5-Iron and hit it to about 10 feet and made an eagle there.”
He led the entire field in birdies with an incredible 16 total birdies over the three days. Blanks created a comfortable margin on the back nine for himself when he found himself leading by four stroke going into the difficult Par-4 16th. Blanks’ play on the par fives was the difference maker as he was -8 on those holes alone for the tournament.
“I got a chance to look at the leaderboard when we made the turn and wanted to see if anyone ahead of us was playing really well that I needed to be aware of or if it was just the guys in my group I needed to control.”
Blanks turned 50 last year and was excited to compete in the largest State Senior Open in the country that saw a record purse of $100,000. With this win, Blanks took home a check of $20,000 due to all of the local support from sponsors throughout the Mont Belvieu area.
After a -4 (67) final round, Bob Jacobson out of McKinney, TX finished with Low Amateur honors with a tournament total of -2 (211). He started the day at +2 overall in the Championship but after five birdies he climbed up 12 spots on the leaderboard. His T9 finish is the lowest finish by an Amateur in Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open history.
“This has been a great experience and the greens are in fantastic shape. The field was great and I love playing against the best players. My goal was to shoot even par to ensure I finished as low amateur. I just made some really good putts and that was the difference maker” said Jacobson about his round.
Terry Snodgrass out of Arlington, TX posted a tournament total of +7 (220), taking the Super Senior Division for the 65+ players.
