Southern Texas PGA • December 14, 2021

Good Morning PGA Members and Associates,

Registration for the 2022 Pro-Pro Am-Am events will open on Tuesday, January 11th at 9:00 a.m.!! The STPGA will be returning to the Golden Nugget in February 2022 to host two Pro-Pro Am-Ams. The event dates are as follows:

Pro-Pro Am-Am #1 – Tournament Information

February 21 – February 22 – The Country Club at the Golden Nugget

Pro-Pro Am- Am #2 – Tournament Information

February 28 – March 1 – The Country Club at the Golden Nugget

Registration for both Pro-Pro Am-Am events will open on January 11th at 9:00 a.m. CDT. New for 2022, Professionals will utilize a Google Form to Register and must select the Event which they wish to Register for.  You will only be able to participate in one of the events in February, however, with the use of the new Google Form for registration we will be able to ensure that the events are truly first-come, first-served. PGA Members during the registration process will be asked to specify their first choice of date and whether they would like to participate in the other date if they are unable to get into the active field for their primary date. I.e, if you want to register in the February 21-22 event but it is full, you would be added to the February 28 - March 1 event based on your time of registration.

Individuals will be notified by End of Day on Wednesday, January 12th on their Registration Status. Once you are confirmed for an event, you will be sent a link to enter your payment information. Payment must be received by 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, January 14th, or your spot will be vacated and offered to the next team on the Waitlist. The event will utilize the following Priority Entry System:

Priority #1 – Teams consisting of Two Class A PGA Members or Teams consisting of a Class A PGA Member and a Class B Associate.

Priority #2 – Teams consisting of Two Class B Associates.

With registration opening before the second major of 2022, the 2021 points lists will be referenced to determine STPGA Professionals in the top 24 on the STPGA Professional Point list or top 6 on the Senior Point List, and these professionals may not form a team. Once you are approved in the field, you must provide the names and handicaps of all amateurs.

Similar to previous years, Teams will consist of two Professionals and two amateurs. Amateurs will receive 75% of their course handicaps. There will be two separate competitions, with two separate purses. The Pro-Pro competition will be the one low score of the two professionals. The Pro-Am will be two best balls of the four team members (one gross and one net).

The STPGA will revert to the following set up for the Yardage Guidelines: All Male PGA Professionals 59 & Under will play from the Championship yardage. Male PGA Professionals 60 & Over and Male Amateurs 59 & Under will play from a yardage that is 94% of the Championship yardage. Female PGA Professionals & Male Amateurs 60 & Over will play from a yardage that is 85% of the Championship yardage.

Based on registrations and conduction of the February events, the STPGA is evaluating whether a 3rd event will be added in either August or September. This decision will be made by May 1.

We are looking forward to hosting the fantastic events at the Golden Nugget. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to myself or another STPGA staff Member.

Best Regards,

Scott Archer

HOUSTON, TEXAS (November 18, 2025) – The historic 45th Joe Black Cup has concluded, and we proudly congratulate Team NTPGA on securing the victory at BraeBurn Country Club with a final score of 15.5–8.5 over Team STPGA. Team NTPGA established early momentum during Day One, delivering an impressive performance in the Four-Ball and Foursomes matches, where they earned 9.5 points to build a commanding lead. Their strong play continued into the Singles matches, where they successfully held off a determined rally from Team STPGA. Throughout Tuesday’s competition, spectators were treated to a dynamic and engaging battle, with the leaderboard frequently shifting between red and blue as both teams exchanged critical points to tie the session 6-6. This year’s event was elevated by a truly memorable “Evening of Honor,” during which we welcomed and celebrated 29 Past Captains. Their presence underscored the tradition, legacy, and camaraderie that define the Texas Joe Black Cup Matches. The evening served as a powerful reminder of the event’s rich history and the influential leaders who have helped shape its enduring significance. We extend heartfelt congratulations to Team NTPGA for their outstanding performance and to both teams for exemplifying sportsmanship, competitive spirit, and pride in their respective sections. The 45th Joe Black Cup will long be remembered as a fitting tribute to the heritage of golf in Texas, Mr. Joe Black, and the individuals who continue to elevate the game. After 45 years of competition, the Northern Texas PGA now holds a 22–21–2 lead over the Southern Texas PGA in the storied history of the Joe Black Cup Matches. The 46th playing will return to Midland Country Club on November 16–17, 2026, where Team STPGA will look to reclaim the cup and bring it back to Southern Texas. A special thank you to Club Car, Srixon, Cleveland Golf, Peter Millar, and Winston Collection for their outstanding partnership and support in creating a world-class atmosphere befitting this historic 45th edition of the Matches. SPRING, TX (November 5, 2025) – After falling heartbreakingly short one year ago, Team Southern Texas PGA returned to the Levy Cup Matches with one mission: to bring the Cup home. And in one of the most dramatic finishes in event history, they did just that, defeating Team Northern Texas PGA by a single point at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas. The 9th playing of the Levy Cup Matches, held November 3–4, featured twelve PGA Professionals from each Section competing across Four-Ball, Foursomes, and Singles Matches in a spirited Ryder Cup–style format.
