Houston, TX (September 8, 2024) – The Southern Texas PGA is ready to host 105 PGA of America Members this coming Monday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 9 at historic Champions Golf Club – Cypress Course. Ben Willman, PGA Teaching Professional from Axis Golf Academy looks to defend his title from last year’s event held at BraeBurn Country Club.
“Champions Golf Club is a special place within the game of golf, and we know this Championship will add to its great history,” said Thomas Hutton, Executive Director. “We hope that both Mr. Burke and Mr. Demaret are watching from above and are proud of the work that these PGA of America Members do each day to grow the game but still play the game at a high level.”
The Cypress Course will play to a Par-71 with the Male Professionals playing at 7,069 yards and the Female Professionals playing at 6,023 yards. With the recent weather in Houston, hitting the fairways will be key due to the dense Bermuda rough along with quality putting as the Cypress Course has some of the largest greens in Texas.
“This Championship concludes our five major events for our Members in 2024,” said Hutton. “Not only are they playing for our largest purse of the year and the Tommy Aycock Trophy, but this is also the final opportunity to earn points on our Player of the Year, Joe Black Cup, and Levy Cup Points Lists.”
The field of 105 features everything from General Managers, Directors of Golf, Head Professionals, Assistant Professionals, Teaching Professionals, and more that have all earned the right to call themselves PGA of America Members. This year’s field includes 10 Past Champions of the Section Championship and players competing for 8 exemptions into the 2025 PGA Professional Championship where the top-20 finishers will earn an exemption into the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC
