Gavre claims the Super Senior Division title.
MONT BELVIEU, TX—Marshall Gavre of Green Valley, Arizona captured the Super Senior Division title at the 24th Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open presented by S & B and Vortech Contracting, finishing with a 36-hole total of 139 (-3).
“I love playing in tournaments. So, this was really fun for me,” said Gavre. “I just really enjoyed it, and mostly I played good golf. I can’t complain about it.”
Following round one of the Super Senior Division, Gavre led the division by three strokes with a score of 68 (-3). Today, during Round 2, Gavre fired off three birdies on the front nine and one on the back, giving him a score of 71 (E) and the lead by two strokes to earn the title of champion.
“It feels good. It feels like I have some staying power, even as I get older,” said Gavre. “Most of the guys that have won in the past, they’ve been playing a long time. But you know, it’s my turn.”
With his Super Senior Division win, Gavre is leaving Mont Belvieu with a crystal trophy and $2,640 in winnings.
Dennis Hendershott of Paris, Ontario currently leads the Senior Division field by one stroke after shooting 65 (-6) in round two of the 24th Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open for a 36-hole total of 134 (-8). In a four-way tie for second, Mark Walker of Celina, Texas, Clay Devers of Shawnee, Kansas, Jamie Elliott of Lewisville, Texas, and Bill Breen of Nashville, Tennessee follow close behind at 135 (-7) heading into the final round tomorrow.
The 24th Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open is being contested at Eagle Pointe Golf Club, a 6,740-yard par 71 course in Mont Belvieu, Texas. This is the seventh year in a row Eagle Pointe has hosted this event.
Round 3 of the Senior Open begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. Round 3 tee times and current player standings can be found on the Texas Senior Open Tournament Page.
