SPRING, TX – The Golf Club of Houston will play host to the 2019 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac and Club Car on Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 30. Five-time Champion Robert Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club, looks to three-peat at this year’s event.
The field is competing for seven qualifying spots for the 30th Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac. The Championship will be contested on October 3-6, 2019 at Southern Texas’ own Omni Barton Springs Resort & Spa - Fazio Foothills & Coore Crenshaw Courses. The top 32 players from the event will compete in the 102nd KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich., set for May 19-27, 2020.
The 36-hole, individual stroke-play championship will feature 34 PGA Professionals and is being played on the Golf Club of Houston - Member Course, a par 72, 7,508-yard layout. This marks the first time the Golf Club has hosted this event.
The Championship is being supported by Golf Channel and John Deere.
In last year’s event, Thompson carded only bogey over the 36-holes for a total of 138 (-6). In addition to last year’s victory, he won the event in 2010, 2014, 2015, 2017.
Mike Kullberg, PGA Head Professional at Sterling Country Club, and Billy Sitton, PGA Golf Executive at Triumph Golf LLC, finished tied for second with a total of 139 (-5), followed by Darrell Fuston, PGA Director of Golf at The Woodlands Country Club, and Troy Schleicher, PGA Teaching Professional at The Woodlands Country Club, tied for fourth with a two-day total of 141 (-3).
