BRYAN, TEXAS --- Lonny Alexander, PGA Teaching Instructor at Onion Creek Golf Club, leads after Round One of the 2019 Tradition Championship. Alexander fired an opening round of 4-under-par 68 to lead the field heading into tomorrow’s final round. He recorded six birdies over 18-holes.
Three shots behind Alexander at 1-under par 71 sits Justin Engel, PGA Assistant Professional at Shadow Hawk Golf Club, and K.C. Lim, Assistant Professional at The Republic Golf Club.
The Tradition Championship, the fourth Major Tournament of the 2019 schedule, also includes a Senior Division that is comprised of 15 professionals ages 50 and older who are competing for a separate purse and are playing from modified yardage. Ricky Arnett, PGA Head Professional at Great Hills Country Club, currently sits atop of the leaderboard at 1-under-par 71.
Traditions Club, a 7,146-yard Nicklaus course, is playing host to the Tradition Championship. This marks the first time Traditions Club has hosted a major tournament since 2015. The Championship is presented by Club Car, Cutter & Buck, Devant Sports Towels, L.A.B. Golf, Sterling Cut Glass, and Turf Hound.
Hole-in-One USA presented a Closest to the Pin contest on Hole 16. David von Hoffmann, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club, came within 22-inches of the hole to win $200.
