Gilbert Mendez, PGA Teaching Professional at GolfTEC – Westlake is at the top of the leaderboard after finishing Round One of the 2020 Tradition Championship with a score of 66 (-6). Mendez, who had a bogey-free round, carded three birdies on the front nine and went on to fire three more on the back nine.
Sitting one stroke behind Mendez are Jared Jones, PGA Director of Instruction at River Oaks Country Club, KC Lim, Teaching Professional at Cypresswood Golf Glub, and Garrett Driver, Assistant Professional at Wildcat Golf Club, with a Round One score of 67 (-5).
Presented by Envirocleanse, NFP Hole-In-One USA, ProBuy, Turfhound, Surf & Turf Golf, Sterling Cut Glass, and PGA TOUR, the Tradition Championship is being contested on the 6,927-yard, par-72 course at Westwood Golf Club, the second oldest Private Golf Club in the city of Houston.
Also competing this week at Westwood are 15 PGA Professionals ages 50 and over. Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member currently leads the division after shooting a bogey-free round of 66 (-6). Billy Sitton, PGA Facilities Manager at Triumph Golf LLC, sits one stroke behind Uresti at 5-under par, 67.
Play during Round One was suspended at 3:01 p.m. due to weather in the area and resumed at 4:15 p.m.
Round Two is set to start tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
