HOUSTON, TEXAS (June 17, 2024) - It was an afternoon shotgun start for the seventh annual STPGA Pro-Junior Championship that took place this year at Westwood Golf Club with 17 teams competing in a stepback scramble format featuring one PGA of America Member and three junior golfers. This fun event is all about our Members playing alongside juniors in a team format.
The title this year was taken by Kenneth Mesimer, PGA Director of Instruction at Lakeside Country Club, and Noah Bahrami, Tyler Davis, and Luke Schultz. Mesimer and his team were able to close out their round at 54 (-18). They started the round out with only a few pars, but their exceptional game throughout the rest of the day set them apart.
“We were obviously out there having a great time, but really just trying to play aggressively. We hit drivers on every tee and tried to shoot the lowest scores that we could” stated Mesimer.
By recording three eagles and one albatross on their scorecard, this team positioned themselves well to win the tournament. They closed out with a birdie on hole 13 to emerge victorious and secure the title.
Noah Bahrami explains, “we started off with a few pars and then through the middle of the round is when we had a few eagles and an albatross, so we just kept on steady from there.”
We want to thank our Title Sponsor, Taylormade, for making this event special and along with Westwood Golf Club for their hospitality and providing this event with a phenomenal course.
