HOCKLEY, TEXAS (August 17, 2020) —
Round One of the 2020 Memorial Championship concluded this afternoon with a three-way tie. Erik Knudsen, PGA Member at Caddiemaster LLC, Pablo del Olmo, Teaching Professional at The Woodlands Country Club Palmer Course, and Carlos Sainz Jr., Teaching Professional at GolfTEC – Upper Kirby sit at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 65 (-6).
Ross Prachar, PGA Teaching Professional at Golf Club of Houston sits closely behind the trio, carding an opening-round score of 66 (-5).
Presented by AHEAD, Club Car, GT Golf Supplies, L.A.B. Golf, Levelwear, Hole-In-One USA, NexBelt, and PGA TOUR the Memorial Championship is being contested at The Clubs at Houston Oaks, a 7,007-yard, par 71, private course designed, by Chet Williams.
The Memorial Championship also features a Senior Division, where PGA Professionals ages 50 and over are competing for a separate purse. After Round One, Jeff Strong, PGA Facilities Manager at Triumph Golf LLC and Steve Parker, PGA Life Member sit at the top of the leaderboard firing 1-under par, 70. PGA Life Member, Omar Uresti, sits 1 stroke behind the pair at even-to-par 71.
This Championship marks the fourth Major Tournament for the Southern Texas PGA this year, and the last Major Championship before the Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship next month.
Tee times during Round One were delayed by 30 minutes due to inclement weather in the area.
The Southern Texas PGA would like to thank presenting sponsor, GT Golf Supplies who gifted a set of Lamkin golf grip today via a raffle. The winner of that raffle was Edwin Fuh, PGA Club Fitting Professional at The Club at Carlton Woods.
Round Two is set to start tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
