HOUSTON, TX – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, won the 2019 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac and Club Car. He carded only three bogeys over the 36-hole event for a total of 139 (-5).
“I knew I had to go out today and play some solid golf because I knew the others were going to come after me,” said Uresti. “It ended up being a good, solid day. I didn’t do anything spectacular but didn’t do anything awful. It was just good, solid cruising kind of day.”
John Gibson, PGA Assistant Professional at Memorial Park Golf Course, and Darrell Fuston, PGA Director of Golf at The Woodlands Country Club, finished tied for second with a total of 140 (-4), followed by Tim Hobby, PGA Teaching Professional at the Club at Sonterra and Ricky Arnett, PGA Head Professional at Great Hills Country Club, who tied for fourth with a two-day total of 142 (-2).
The Southern Texas Senior PGA Championship was a qualifier for the 2019 Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac on October 3-6, 2019 at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa - Fazio Foothills & Coore Crenshaw Courses. The STPGA will be represented by nine PGA Members, including Uresti and Robert Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club, who earned spots into the 2019 Championship due to winning the 2017 PGA Professional Championship at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon and the 2010 Championship at Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, California, respectively. The top 32 players from that event will then compete in the 102nd KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich., set for May 19-27, 2020.
The seven other STPGA Members representing South Texas will be Fuston, Gibson, Hobby, Arnett, Mike Kullberg, PGA Head Professional at Sterling Country Club, Billy Sitton, PGA Golf Executive at Triumph Golf LLC, and Carl Baker, PGA Life Member.
The 2019 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac and Club Car was contested at the Golf Club of Houston – Member Course, a 7,508-yard, par 72 course located in Houston, Texas. The 35-player field competed for a purse of $6,600.
