BOERNE, TEXAS --- Lonny Alexander, PGA Teaching Professional at Onion Creek Golf Club, claimed the 2019 Spring Classic presented by AHEAD, Cobra Puma, Hole-in-One USA, PXG, US Foods, and Yamaha on Tuesday evening. This win marks the second time in three years that Alexander has won the Spring Classic title. He previously won the championship in 2017 at The Clubs of Kingwood – Deerwood Club.
Alexander shot 76-67 for a two-day total of 143 (-1) to take the top spot over Ben Kern, PGA Head Professional at Georgetown Country Club, and Joe Mitchell, PGA Director of Golf at Victoria Country Club. Kern and Mitchell both recorded a two-day total of 144 (E) to finish tied for second.
“Despite the tough conditions yesterday, I struck the ball really well,” said Alexander. “Luckily, I was able to carry that over to today. Whenever you win you get some good breaks and I had my fair share today. It was just my day.”
In the final round, Alexander recorded five birdies and one eagle.
In the Senior Division, Ricky Arnett, PGA Head Professional at Great Hills Country Club, took home his second consecutive Spring Classic title after shooting 74-70 to finish with a total of 144 (E). Arnett, who carded seven birdies in the final round, beat David Lundstrom, PGA Life Member, and Tim Hobby, PGA Teaching Professional at The Club at Sonterra, by two strokes. Lundstrom and Hobby finished tied for second with a score of 146 (+2).
“I’ve been so busy and haven’t been able to play,” said Arnett. “I really didn’t have any high expectations coming into the tournament. I felt like I was swinging pretty well tee to green. All of a sudden, my putter got hot on Hole 8 and I finished the round with seven birdies. It feels good to have this win.”
The Southern Texas PGA would like to thank AHEAD, Cobra Puma, Hole-in-One USA, PXG, US Foods, and Yamaha for their support. Also, thank you to The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch and PGA General Manager Mark DeWall, PGA Director of Golf Daren Johnson, PGA Head Professional Jacques LeBlanc, and their staff for a great tournament.
