BOERNE, TEXAS – Ben Kern, PGA Head Professional at Georgetown Country Club, leads after Round One of the 2019 Spring Classic presented by AHEAD, Cobra Puma, Hole-in-One USA, PXG, US Foods, and Yamaha. Kern fired a two-under-par 70 in the opening round to lead the field. Kern carded six birdies over his 18-holes of golf.
Three shots behind Kern is Joe Mitchell, PGA Director of Golf at Victoria Country Club, followed by KC Lim, Assitant Professional at The Republic Golf Club, and James Brown, PGA Head Professional at Royal Oaks Country Club, tied for third at 74 (+2).
The Spring Classic, the third Major Tournament on the 2019 schedule, also includes a Senior Division that is comprised of 25 professionals ages 50 and older who are competing for a separate purse and are playing from modified yardage. David Lundstrom, PGA Life Member, currently sits at the top spot on the Senior Division leaderboard with a score of 73 (+1). Reigning Senior Division Champion Ricky Arnett, PGA Head Professional at Great Hills Country Club, sits one shot behind Lundstrom. Tim Hobby, PGA Teaching Professional at The Club of Sonterra, Robert Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club, and Carl Baker, PGA Life Member, are all tied for third after recording a 75 (+3).
The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, a 7,133-yard, par 72 course, is playing host to the Spring Classic in Boerne.
