HORSESHOE BAY, TEXAS (July 9, 2024) - The 2024 Texas Team Championship saw Clint Avara, PGA Teaching Professional at TGA Premier Sports and Billy Harris, PGA Life Member came out on top of the field of 117 teams with an impressive two-day low score of 64-64-128 (-15). However, 15-under would not be enough to seal the deal and a playoff against their fellow Northern Texas PGA Members from Sherrill Park Golf Course, Rick Woodson, PGA Teaching Professional and Josh Civella, PGA Assistant Professional would ensue on Hole 18.
Clint would have a four foot putt for birdie after an incredible approach shot onto the green. Billy and Clint would card only one bogey and sixteen birdies throughout their two days here at Horseshoe Bay Resort.
“We just played solid two days. We didn’t have a whole lot of stress besides the 16th hole. Other than that we just had fun and tried to make putts” said Avara.
This event is one of the most unique events in the country with PGA of America Members from both the Southern Texas and Northern Texas PGA Sections competing in the event. It has a long standing tradition of taking place at Horseshoe Bay and features two-player teams competing in a best ball format.
Harris adds, “Clint and I have been playing together for about five years. Our personalities get along together, so we have fun whether we win or not. It’s icing on the cake when we win it!”
Returning in 2024 was the much loved putting contest at Whitewater Putting Course at Horseshoe Bay Resort. The team of Jesse Cosma and Connor Smith took home the victory this year by one stroke at 28-under. This fun, laid back atmosphere allows for sponsors of the event to interact with PGA Professionals and enjoy each other’s company.
The Southern Texas PGA would like to thank all of our sponsors this year which included Adidas, Boxto, Branded Bills, Destination Kohler, E-Z-GO, Foresight Sports, Global Golf Sales, Heritage Creations USA, Redvanly, and XXIO. Due to the incredible support of our partners, the overall purse for the event was $59,100 which includes the $55,200 overall purse plus $3,200 in special contests.
The Texas Team Championship was played on the 6,858-yard Apple Rock and 6,702-yard Ram Rock Courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort.
