KINGWOOD, TEXAS (March 15, 2022) – The 2022 STPGA Pro-Pro Championship saw back-to-back wins from the River Oaks Country Club team as they claimed their second consecutive win as the defending champions. Jared Jones, PGA and Jimmy Anderson, PGA secured the lead in round one and held it throughout round two, firing a 65-64 for a 36-hole team score of (-15) 129. With this victory, Jones and Anderson will take home a check for $5,500.
“It’s certainly exciting to come back into the event as defending champions,” said Jones. “But there was maybe a little bit of added pressure. It was a great test, and certainly a lot of fun for the two days.”
Heading into the final round with just a one-stroke lead, Jones and Anderson locked in their lead with five birdies in a bogeyless front nine, handing the rest of the field a challenge to catch up. With a four-stroke lead putting for birdie on 18 green, Anderson sunk the putt to knock it up to five.
Last year, Jones and Anderson refused to give up the lead after their first round, securing the champion title with a birdie putt on hole 18. Their rounds of -11 and -8 gave them a 1-stroke lead, finishing at a 36-hole total of (-19) 125.
“This one meant more than last year,” said Anderson. “We have one more partner event for this year, so we’ll team it up again then.”
Tim Thelen, PGA of Texas A&M Golf Club and Jeff Strong, PGA of Spirit Golf Association claimed their second-place position after a battle in the final round, scoring a 36-hole team total of (-10) 134.
This event was hosted at the Clubs of Kingwood (Deerwood Club). The Deerwood Course is ranked as one of the top 10 courses in Texas by the Dallas Morning News and is home to the iconic scene of hole No. 18 in the 1996 film Tin Cup, starring Kevin Costner.
The Pro-Pro Championship is a two-man, Four-Ball stroke play event, contested over 36-holes where 44 teams of PGA Professionals from the Southern Texas Section competed on the 7,006-yard Deerwood Course at The Clubs of Kingwood. This year’s tournament was presented by Evolve Golf, Next Round, E-Z-GO, Callaway Golf, Lorente Golf, Power Tee, and the PGA TOUR.
