HORSESHOE BAY, TEXAS (July 6, 2020) — The team of Stetson McMillan, Teaching Professional and John Sikes, PGA Director at John Sikes Golf Academy are in the lead following today’s round at the Texas Team Championship at Horseshoe Bay Resort with an 18-hole score of 60 (-12) on the Apple Rock Course at Horseshoe Bay Resort.
Sitting behind McMillan and Sikes at a Round 1 score of 10-under-par are the teams of James Bolton, Assistant Professional and Billy Harris, PGA Head Professional at Dallas Country Club, carding 61 on the 71-par Ram Rock Course, and Jeff Strong, PGA Manager and Billy Sitton, PGA Manager at Triumph Golf LLC, carding 62 on the 72-par Apple Rock Course.
The Championship, open to teams of PGA Professionals from both the Northern Texas and Southern Texas Sections, is presented by Adidas, Cobra Puma Golf, Donald Ross and Dan Liscio, E-Z-GO, Garia, L.A.B. Golf, and Morell Studios. Two-man teams are competing on the 6,858-yard, 72-par Apple Rock and 6,702-yard, 71-par Ram Rock Courses both designed by World of Golf Hall of Famer, Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
Following today’s round, players competed in the annual Texas Team Championship Putting Contest on Horseshoe Bay’s Whitewater Putting Course, a unique 72-par putting course featuring waterfalls, bunkers, and more. This contest allows STPGA and NTPGA professionals to socialize with the tournament’s presenting sponsors in a fun, interactive way.
Round Two for the Texas Team Championship begins tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
