THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 15, 2020)—Carlos Sainz Jr., Teaching Professional at GolfTEC Upper Kirby is ahead by 1 stroke, with a Round One score of 68 (-4) following day one of the Spring Classic at The Woodlands Country Club. Sainz Jr. made an impressive 4 birdies on the front nine and went on to grab two more on the back nine, securing him the lead.
Closely behind Sainz Jr. is David Von Hoffmann, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club carding a bogey-free 69 (-3) for Round One with three birdies throughout the day.
The tournament also includes a Senior Division where 22 PGA Professionals ages 50 and over are competing for a separate purse. Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member leads the Senior Division with a Round One total of 69 (-3), followed by Susie Redman-Kirk, PGA Teaching Professional at Golf Trails at The Woodlands with a score of 71 (-1).
Originally scheduled for March of this year, the Spring Classic was rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic and relocated to The Woodlands Country Club (Tournament Course) making it the second major championship for the Southern Texas PGA this year.
The Spring Classic, presented by Hole-in-One USA and PGA TOUR is being contested on 7,018-yard Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club, a par-72 course designed by von Hagge-Devlin.
Round Two is set to start tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
