SPRING, TEXAS – The Southern Texas PGA announced today its five Major Championships for the 2020 season.
The first major tournament of the year will be the Spring Classic held at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas on Monday, March 16 – Tuesday, March 17, 2020. The par 72 course covering 7,174 yards will host for the first time since 2017. Defending champions for the Spring Classic are Lonny Alexander (Open Division) and Ricky Arnett (Senior Division). Arnett has won the Spring Classic Senior Division the past two years.
The 2020 Match Play Championship will move to May for the first time. The tournament will now be played from Monday, May 18 – Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at The Clubs of Kingwood (Island). This 5-round tournament will be played on the par 72 Island Course for the second year in a row which covers 7,253 yards. Defending champions are Callum McNeil (Open Division) and Robert Thompson (Senior Division).
Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Texas will host the Tradition Championship for the first time on Monday, July 20 – Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Westwood’s course is a par 72 and covers 7,184 yards. Last year’s champions are Ben Willman (Open Division) and Ricky Arnett (Senior Division).
The penultimate tournament of the year, the Memorial Championship, will be held Monday, August 17 – Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at The Woodlands Country Club (Tournament) for the first time since 2015. The Championship will be played on the par 72 Tournament Course covering 7,018 yards. Defending champions are KC Lim (Open Division) and Tim Hobby (Senior Division).
The final major championship of the year has been moved from August to September for 2020. The STPGA Professional Championship will be played at Boot Ranch in Fredericksburg, Texas over 3 rounds on the par 71, 7,155-yard course from Monday, September 21 – Wednesday, September 23, 2020. This will be the second time that Boot Ranch has hosted the Southern Texas PGA’s most prestigious tournament. Jared Jones is the defending champion.
In addition to the five major championships, two additional tournaments have been confirmed.
The Effex Management Solutions Texas Team Championship will be played at Horseshoe Bay Resort (Ram Rock & Apple Rock) on Monday, July 6 – Tuesday July 7, 2020. The Ram Rock & Apple Rock Courses are par 71 covering 6,926 yards and par 72 covering 6,999 yards respectively. Corbin King and David Lundstrom form the defending champion team.
New in 2020, is the Senior & Assistant Professional Championship. This tournament will combine the Senior PGA Professional Championship and the Assistant PGA Professional Championship. The 2-day, 36-hole Championship will be held at Golf Club of Houston (Tournament) on Wednesday, May 27 – Thursday, May 28. The Championship Committee has been working hard to find options to enhance both of these events and believe this new event will mirror the camaraderie of the Levy Cup with Assistants and Seniors playing together to compete for national qualifying spots along with a spot on the Levy Cup Team.
