Ten STPGA Professionals make their way to the 2022 PGA Professional Championship

For the first time since its establishment in 1968, the PGA Professional Championship will take place at Omni Barton Creek in Austin, Texas Sunday, April 17 through Wednesday, April 20. In a field of 312 PGA Professionals, ten of those professionals will be representing the Southern Texas Section.
In September 2021, the STPGA hosted its 53rd Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship as the qualifier to get into the 2022 PGA Professional Championship. Ben Kern, PGA Director of Golf at Georgetown Country Club won the event and will lead a group of nine other PGA Professionals from the STPGA.
These Professionals include, JJ Wood, PGA Director of Instruction at Golf Performance Group, Gregory Hiller, PGA Director of Instruction at TPC San Antonio, Shane Hall, PGA Assistant Professional at Sugar Creek Country Club, Jared Jones, PGA Director of Instruction at River Oaks Country Club, Robert Scott, PGA Teaching Professional at Royal Oaks Country Club, Derrick Dixon, PGA General Manager at Briggs Ranch Golf Club, and Casey Russell, PGA Director of Golf at Big Easy Ranch. Grayson Arellano, PGA Golf Instructor at Grayson Arellano Golf, qualified from the Southern California Section and moved earlier this year to the Southern Texas Section.
The tenth professional is PGA Life Member Omar Uresti. Uresti is a two-time winner of the PGA Professional Championship and is set to defend his title after winning in 2021 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL.
These ten professionals will be competing for the Walter Hagen Cup and the chance to earn one of the 20 spots to play in the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 19 – May 22.
The 2022 PGA Professional Championship is a 72-hole tournament that will take place from Sunday, April 17 to Wednesday, April 20, 2022. You can watch the Championship live on Golf Channel each of the days of the competition.
